Unfortunately, many foods that a plant-based eater consumes contain very high levels of pesticides if not purchased organic. Rice, beans, lentils, whole-wheat, grains and oats are desiccated, or dried down, with glyphosate (the main ingredient in the herbicide, Roundup). Therefore, you should ALWAYS purchase rice, beans, lentils, whole-grains

and oats organic to avoid this problem.

All of these produce items have the highest levels of pesticides, so ALWAYS buy these organic; especially hot peppers and greens which have the highest levels of pesticide residue (on the new super dirty list).

The “Clean Fifteen” – these produce items have the least amount of pesticide residue and can be purchased conventional or non-organic. 

  1. *Sweet corn   

  2. Avocado

  3. Pineapples

  4. Cabbage

  5. Onions

  6. Sweet peas frozen

  7. *Papaya

  8. Asparagus

  9. Mangos

  10. Eggplant

  11. Honey dew melon

  12. Kiwi

  13. Cantaloupe

  14. Cauliflower

  15. Grapefruit

*Though low on outside pesticide residue, these produce items probably will be genetically modified unless purchased organic and have high levels of herbicides. The corn may produce pesticides from within.


Here’s a helpful tip – PLU (price look up codes) or the little stickers on produce are either a four or five-digit number. A five-digit number beginning with a 9 means it’s organic i.e. 94011 a four-digit code means conventional or not organic i.e. 4011
